about
This song essentially wraps up the entire debut EP (The Parting Gift) for Without Belief. This closes the story of losing Ralph's father back in 2019 which was the beginning of what is now this project, a legacy and in memory of him. This reflects on the EP and has Ralph detailing what it was like since this released, expressing the emotions, feelings and grieving that continued during 2020 until now.
Jake Kershaw, (founding member alongside Ralph), worked on this song in the peak of the Melbourne COVID-19 lockdown, bringing a emphasis on how well these two bounce off one another with their bond and friendship, while not being able to physically see one another to write music or interact as per normal, they were able to still come together and write music as if they were never apart.
While being isolated and lockdown in what we can all say is a once in a lifetime experience, dealing with isolation and mental health and a global pandemic, even through music, they were never truly alone.
The song is a very touching and close to home piece for Ralph, in the sense it is the final term of acceptance, while still ultimately trying to fight the reality of waking up every day knowing his Dad is no longer here.
A feeling and detailed experience, Ralph has provided and supported many across through the music, his social media platforms and through the project to connect and help people be reminded they are truly never alone in their suffering or grieving when they lose a loved one.
This song was written during 2020 and rewritten a few times lyrically to truly symbolize the rough journey Ralph went through to come to terms of not only losing his best friend, his Dad, but as well as the idea of the project moving forward into a new era that will be soon coming after this release.
The song contains very hard hitting lyrics which remind Ralph and his loved ones of their beloved family member. Quotes from William Brown are forever embodied into the song, remembering his last words to his family:
'Even when I am gone, i'll still be right here inside your heart'
Listening to the song, you can hear Ralph truly bringing out a more emotional ending to the song than Part 1 did and showing Ralph truly fighting back not only tears, but as well the hurt he still holds even though he has come to reality and terms with everything.
You can not only hear this in the harsh vocals but the delivery of the chorus;
Although it kills me to know that you are not still here,
With each passing day I am closer to seeing you again
my old friend, my mentor,
We will meet again
This is goodbye for now,
This is goodbye for now.
Finding yourself really feeling what Ralph wanted you to feel, and to understand where he is now with his grieving he admits time and time again, will never stop.
lyrics
Moving past the memories,
That have been ingrained in my mind too long.
I can see you far in the distance,
But I'm just not there yet.
Although it kills me to know that you are not still here,
With each passing day I am closer to seeing you again
my old friend, my mentor,
We will meet again
This is goodbye for now,
This is goodbye for now.
There was no room for goodbye,
I hope there is a next time.
Some say Acceptance is just defeat,
Well maybe its just me,
But I have overcome the fact that you were,
Meant to be set free.
Remembering your last words to us
'Even when I am gone, ill still be right here inside your heart'
Just to hear you speak again could bring a sense of
ever lasting peace,
But deep down inside I know that there is nothing I can ever do that will bring you back.
It's a heavy gloom,
And I know it's real,
Can you hear me now?
I need your guidance.
Father,
I need direction.
